Cushion embroidery workshop
with Hemingway Design
I took part in a voluntary extra curricular project to develop and run a workshop for young people aged 11-18, to design and make a cushion cover to be used in the Guildhall, Portsmouth. The Base is a newly renovated space at the Guildhall, to be a space for young people to hang out in, study, and attend creative workshops. In collaboration with an MA Interior Architecture student, and with a design brief from Hemingway Design, we carefully planned, prepped, and lead our cushion embroidery workshop to an enthusiastic group of young people, teaching them new skills and encouraging creativity. Every participant was eager to get creative which was a joy to watch, and as a result the Base now has an array to beautiful cushions to add the finishing touches to Hemingway Design's work. Taking part in this community project has been incredibly rewarding and has given me real world experience of designing for a brief, as well as working with colleagues across disciplines.

Stitch templates I screen printed so that the participants could practice

The brief was fun and abstract, giving participants freedom to create something true to them
