Pattern Cutting & Sewing
During my first module, Core Skills, I learnt the fundamentals of sewing and pattern cutting. In calico I made a shirt and a pair of shorts, which taught me a range of new technical skills including: sewing French seams, sewing jetted pockets, sewing collars, using the industrial button machine, overlocking, inserting zips, and much more. In pattern cutting class, we learnt how to adapt patterns from basic blocks, and created patterns such as the origami bamboo sleeve and the asymmetrical darted bodice. Using this knowledge, I have continued to develop my skills in pattern cutting and sewing- most recently creating a half scale toil of a lantern sleeve with horizontal and vertical pleats. These skills are vital to my course and I will continue to push myself to improve as I continue my degree.
