Fashion Futures:
Design Development
and Resolution
My module: Fashion Futures: Design Development and Resolution took the research and experimentation that I had completed in the previous module, and refined it to create an eclectic outerwear garment. Building upon my previous experiments with natural dye, embroidery, laser cutting, foiling, screen printing, and crochet, I created a rich patchwork of materials to explore a SciFi/ Steampunk inspired aesthetic. Using my knowledge of pattern cutting, I refined my design to ensure the garment had an excellent fit and finish, especially the pleats which I designed to open up gracefully over the curve of the shoulder no matter the wearer. This project was incredibly exciting and allowed me to explore a range of new techniques and technical challenges, and taught me the importance of having a sustainable approach to design and fabric sourcing. The aesthetic was unlike anything I had ever done before, as I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and see what I was capable of. I’m particularly fond of the detachable mirror which I sourced from a second hand hand bag, which adds the finishing touch to the look.
